Dad has said that if they won't let me go to the Museumwise conference I'm registered for I should just call in sick/claim a funeral for the 15th, but when I pointed out that everyone knows by now that I'm planning on it and the temp agency might get annoyed he said if they do I should walk. DDD: This is frightening. I am bad at lying and also bad at standing up for myself.
I mean, in retrospect I should have said "I can't work in a tax office, I have a prior commitment on the 15th," but I didn't remember about it and I was happy to have a local job offered to me.

My advice is -- don't walk! Not unless you have basically a 100% certainty that you will get another job at the conference AND they won't hold you quitting your last job against you.

TBH I never mention my non-museum work when I'm applying for museum jobs. I might off-handedly bring it up at the interview, but I don't think that having quit a secretarial job with a fucked-up boss after a week would be too much of an issue.
