Dad has said that if they won't let me go to the Museumwise conference I'm registered for I should just call in sick/claim a funeral for the 15th, but when I pointed out that everyone knows by now that I'm planning on it and the temp agency might get annoyed he said if they do I should walk. DDD: This is frightening. I am bad at lying and also bad at standing up for myself.

I mean, in retrospect I should have said "I can't work in a tax office, I have a prior commitment on the 15th," but I didn't remember about it and I was happy to have a local job offered to me.

How important is this conference to your career? Do you have a very good chance of getting the kind of job you want there?

My advice is -- don't walk! Not unless you have basically a 100% certainty that you will get another job at the conference AND they won't hold you quitting your last job against you.

Not to mention that, with how bad your work environment was, if you decided to slap the boss with a lawsuit, the agency might realistically worry you'd sue them too. Glad it worked out!
