Nov. 3rd, 2014 08:36 pmSewed a top today! Going to wear it to the museum tomorrow. I ended up cutting out the 14, with an eye to taking it in a bit if it proved to be still too big, but 14 seems to be a perfect spot. This is really excellent, I need to get into the habit of sewing tops regularly so I can throw out all my old crappy ones. I did have a few hairy spots, but it was mostly a case of not using enough pins on one seam. Although I broke two needles doing it, one on a pin and one on NO pin, with no previous pin hits, and I don't know what the deal is. Maybe I just needed to go one size up? It is a double knit, not a jersey.
Meant to make bagels, did not, now I have no bagels.
One of my favorite internet nutdiapers has decided once again to get bizarrely personally antagonistic in public. ( in case of deletion/to save clicking ) Sometimes I don't understand people. (Every time I see her comment somewhere my brain just goes "American DUH-chess" and "she uses velcro to hold her stomacher in place".)
Singer 99 still a bit of a headache. I wanted to use it, but in my test swatch the stitches were just always really tight, puckering the fabric (unless I left the ends of the seam with no back tacking), and with slightly too loose top-thread tension no matter where I set the knob. Which might be because I took apart the external tension assembly ... but before I was getting some real craziness whenever the tension wasn't set as low as it could go. I'm not sure if I put it back together wrong or what. I'll have to ask the Yahoo group. I'm thinking some of the puckering may just be that the machine isn't designed to work with knits for whatever reason, though. I'll have to do some more testing on muslin and see how that works.
