I never quite got why people called themselves trash, but while watching the premiere of OUAT (what is even happening?? who are these new characters??) I realized that yes, I am the Rumbelle trash. I will take whatever backsliding rubbish they hand out as long as it has Emilie de Ravin and Robert Carlyle on screen together. I genuinely don't care how repetitive or contrived it is.

If I could force the OUAT writers to follow one rule - other than "lrn 2 Regina" - it would be "do not use Disney songs unironically as diegetic music". I am mortified.

slightly more spoilery )

AD FOR GALAVANT I KEEP FORGETTING ABOUT THAT SHOW. Cannot wait.

I need to ask for Columbus Day off for family things - hopefully the fact that I worked Labor Day and am there nearly every other weekend will count in my favor. And of course Halloween. With any luck I won't still be there by Halloween but I'm not that lucky lately.

You know, as much as I like OUAT and OUAT in Wonderland and their writers' determination to have humanized villains, it's a bit obnoxious that nobody can be evil without having been corrupted through wanting to have better at any cost. (Plus bad parenting.) Not that I think they're ~saying something~ about social climbing, it just gets old. I stop being sympathetic.

Still heard nothing, still bummed.

I'm worried that the bodice of this dress is too short. I mean, I'll be wearing a huge heavy cape most of the time, and the problem is mainly in the back, but still. I'd rather not have that problem in the first place. Maybe I should cover the skirt waistband with a bit of the dress fabric after I make a little drawstring purse for my phone, camera, and money.

No strong feelings about Journey to the Center of the TARDIS (okay, I did think a couple of things )), but I do have a coupla things to say about OUAT, specifically: I feel bad typing this )

---

I really, really need to get going on my TulipFest dress ... I'm just so tired after work, and I'm trying to get myself into bed with the lights off at ten tonight. But maybe if I get out a pattern and some paper I can at least get the bodice worked out.

Allergies still terrible. I forgot to take a Claritin this morning and was really just the same as yesterday, but maybe it needs to get a certain concentration in the system to get going? I'll try to remember one tomorrow.

Cut sleeves out again, much bigger, so I can gather them. And this time I pulled threads as stitch guides - technically this is something you do for small children who are just learning, but I dun care. It makes your stitches a lot smaller, too.

It's interesting, rewatching S1 of OUAT. There are some things I'm impatient to sit through again, but there's a lot that only has meaning now that I'd forgotten about. Also I really want Graham to come back in some way. If only in someone pointing out that Regina magically coerced him into a sexual relationship and murdered him because he was interested in Emma, since that's basically the one thing stopping me from really being in her camp. I do want to see her (eventually) redeemed, I just can't get past it, esp. since it's never addressed.

It's nice for a show to have a second season that doesn't seem to suck )

It struck me last night that now is such a good time for female characters. There are so many shows on now which either have a female lead, half or more female characters, and/or great female characters who are full parts of the story.

I ...

I wish fics would be tagged "good premise but Snape is crazy woobified". It wouldn't stop me from reading, but it'd be nice not to go in with the expectation that every other sentence isn't going to be about how much unendurable pain he's endured. (It would be nicer if everyone would consult me on their characterizations and headcanons before they wrote fic, but oh well.) It's funny, though, when you get to a certain amount of woobification I just enjoy the OTTness.

I took the pattern of my great-grandmother's dress (as seen in this picture) the other day, and now I need to get fabric, some kind of light, crisp cotton. The main issue I have to think about is whether or not it's going to be worn with the 1911 corset. I should just sit down and finish the damn grommets already, put the bones in, and bind it, because that's all that's left, but uggghhhh.

I don't understand why people feel the need to do the Rumple vs. Regina thing. They are both complex characters with good and bad points and are fairly easy to sympathize with while also doing things that make you dislike them. There's no need for one to be the Bad Guy and the other to be a woobie. THANK GOD Emma believes in magic now. I needed a big change. Also, I like that they're heavily indulging my "because your parents" kink. And Belle is out, yay!! I kind of feel like I should stop reading theories on Tumblr, because they so often come true that I feel like I'm missing out on surprises.

I have a few links: an article on the challenges of having a Kanien'kehaka hero/character in the next Assassin's Creed game; an Audra McDonald slideshow in the NYT (omg howwww did Ragtime flop twice??); Megan Hilty apparently WON at playing Lorelei Lee, hence my continued confusion over the Ivy/Karen rivalry (and where can I get this album).

I finally got my formal letter-in-the-mail from the Chapman Museum! This is my last week at the Institute, I wonder if I'll do anything different there. Probably not. Of course I'm nervous to start elsewhere, in my first full-time job, but it will be good for me and get me another recommendation, which will hopefully get me a permanent position somewhere. Or maybe I will get that one in Schenectady! Please!

Finally finishing scanning all those old family photos. I've been noting people in tags and inscriptions in captions, but I think I'm going to go through and add the stamped or written numbers on the backs in the tags as well, to keep batches together. It might help with identification, as well. I think I'm also going to upload some to Tumblr, because some are adorable and some have great clothes. It'd just be nice to share them. (That will probably be on itmeansapricot, my non-fashion Tumblr.)

Am I just stupid, or are many other people? When it comes to Once Upon A Time, I mean. So many of the theory-writers seem to think the fairy-tale parts of the episodes are happening concurrently with the present storyline, which seems to be completely missing the point.

Article in the NYT on all-white casts on television. I think it's pretty good.
