The computer spent about a day and a half finding and importing files from the external, but then it turned out that it imported RAW files, which means that basically it crammed them into files with weird dates (like the 1940s and such) that can't be opened by anything. So I changed the option and now we're doing it all over again.

Okay, so. I need to finish hemming the demi-polonaise, make a bum pad, re-do the front pleats after it turn out that the pad shortens the back too much, and plan out a 1920s court dress and day outfit. Because I'm going to do events! I'm going to wear the court dress to the formal dinner and Jampagne, the day dress for my 1920s class (and whatever else happens that day, probs), the demi-polonaise for the crepe breakfast, and thesis dress for most everything else. On the one hand, given my work rate this is a steep order, but 1920s is fairly simple and at least won't offer too many tricky problems (and I can do it on the machine without ~losing my integrity~). Court dress would need silk, but everything else could be cheaper fabric. Cross your fingers for me and wish me luck.

My stupid external drive isn't working. I thought it might be the cable, so I spent $30 on a new one, but it doesn't seem to be. There's about 600GB of stuff on it, this is so annoying. It comes up as plugged in, with the tray icon to eject it, but there's no drive name (F:\), and it doesn't appear in My Computer, though it does in Device Manager; in Properties there it says it's working properly, but all the fields for volume are left blank. At least the troubleshooting page is saying that this means I can still get my files on my own with software because the partition table is the problem? But I can't do that unless I get another external first, of course. Oof. I'm running an extended diagnostic test, but I don't have high hopes.

It's cool and rainy so I have a bowl of hot chocolate and am watching Lady for a Day on Netflix. It's very soothing to my nerves and throat.

I turned on my computer this morning and thought it was fucked. Error messages about various processes being turned off kept popping up. I downloaded the AVG installer and it wouldn't run. (I had previously uninstalled it for ... reasons, several days ago.) Tried Safe Mode, System Restore - still awful. It took me about forty-five minutes before I realized the clock was a few hours behind, and I clicked on it. Turns out something had reset the date and time to 6AM, 1/1/1601 (or, well, technically it was earlier than that, but the calendar said it couldn't go back any further). Fixed that and all was well. Funny, even the mobile device service error I've been getting for a month or two (or four, I think) has gone away.

The battery issue is still happening, though. :/ When the computer was turned off but plugged in, it did manage to charge off-and-on a bit so it went up from 52% to 55%, so ... I guess that's encouraging? But everything I find on the internet says that the way to fix the issue is to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery driver, and that isn't doing it permanently for me. Well, the internet also brings up potential hardware issues, but they don't seem to be the problem either.

I feel like I've been writing in dribs and drabs, but I have ten pages and 3,000 words so I must be all right. I think my academic writing always seems to be more choppy because a) citations put little walls up between sentences, and b) I do a lot of my research on the fly, in museum databases and Google Books, so I'm constantly stopping to find something out. I might take a break while I watch my shows and work on fixing my image captions in my thesis, which should be really fast.

Need to figure out what I'm going to do for images in this paper. I have read that photographs of two-dimensional artworks (like fashion plates and portraits) are uncopyrightable, but I don't want to send them in and then get in trouble.

Laptop is acting up - the power cord registers as plugged in and keeps the computer running, but won't charge the battery. It's a new battery, so I don't think the issue's there. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the cord driver, but now it's time to try the Master Plan (shut it down and restart).

This morning my laptop just shut itself off and refused to do anything. It looks like this is partially due to the battery finally dying and Toshiba deciding you shouldn't be able to run a plugged-in laptop with a dead battery for some reason, but taking out the battery is not making the difference the internet assured me it would. My power jack is kind of screwy, though, so I'm sticking it back in place (as the internet recommends) and we'll see if that makes it usable. If it does, I'll order a new battery from Amazon.

If it doesn't ... well, I've got my eye on the latest "we're done stocking it" marked down Satellite.
