I turned on my computer this morning and thought it was fucked. Error messages about various processes being turned off kept popping up. I downloaded the AVG installer and it wouldn't run. (I had previously uninstalled it for ... reasons, several days ago.) Tried Safe Mode, System Restore - still awful. It took me about forty-five minutes before I realized the clock was a few hours behind, and I clicked on it. Turns out something had reset the date and time to 6AM, 1/1/1601 (or, well, technically it was earlier than that, but the calendar said it couldn't go back any further). Fixed that and all was well. Funny, even the mobile device service error I've been getting for a month or two (or four, I think) has gone away.
The battery issue is still happening, though. :/ When the computer was turned off but plugged in, it did manage to charge off-and-on a bit so it went up from 52% to 55%, so ... I guess that's encouraging? But everything I find on the internet says that the way to fix the issue is to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery driver, and that isn't doing it permanently for me. Well, the internet also brings up potential hardware issues, but they don't seem to be the problem either.
