I think I've finally figured out what irks me about Sinfest 2.0 - while he's doing a great job of being against female exploitation, he's falling into this weird early-Victorian trap of emphasizing how pure and above it all women are. Women are horrified by porn and generally uninterested in sex, and they only like to dress sexy if they're a) being employed by the devil or b) unenlightened.

He means well, and in some ways it's a great improvement - here's a review that calls early Sinfest "jiggly pimps-n-hoes humor". Then he introduced this girl on a tricycle who was a radical feminist, who showed Monique the patriarchy, and that short storyline set off this huge change. Some people think that it's all a front, but after this comic it seemed pretty clearly his feelings to me. Webcomic Overlook's review comes the closest to my own opinion (because of course with a shift like this, there are plenty of fans of the earlier stuff who feel personally insulted and have issues with feminism - see the comments to Webcomic Overlook where someone has a big problem with a feminist vlogger and gets smacked down hard) (although he doesn't quite believe the author means it and I do).

Really, what pisses me off the most is that when he's doing montages of Patriarchal Oppression Through History he sticks in "burning times" images of young women at the stake, when accused witches were a) generally older herb women, not just beautiful heroines who are Too Modern For Their Time and b) hanged, since burning was for heretics.

Honestly, I don't think he's changed. Now he sees women as that which must be protected, including from themselves. He didn't care to listen to real women before, and he doesn't care to listen to real women now. He's masturbating over his idea of women every bit as much as he was before; he's just doing it non-sexually now, and he thinks that makes him a better person. I can't stand this kind of thing. I prefer honest, straightforward objectification.
