I got a microphone! Owen realized that the one he was going to give me only worked with a specific program, so we went to Best Buy before I drove back here and he bought me a new one. I would have tested it out tonight and even recorded the first episode, but a) I need to finish watching Orange is the New Black!!! and b) it's godawful hot, my apartment is probably 80 degrees and has no air movement.

Although I realized this weekend that AD is actually already doing a podcast, and with that plus FrockFlicks the audience is probably saturated and everyone who sees my blog/FB/etc. posts on the subject of Patreon thinks I'm stupid, but I've been assuming everyone thinks I'm stupid for a long time, so. Still, someone responded to an AH answer - to a follow-up question on a main question that had nothing to do with my area - with

Before this subreddit, I never really appreciated the historical study of things like fashion and beauty standards. But now, as I've come to regard your comments as a treat in any thread, I've grown fond of the subject. Thank you.

Which was really really really really sweet and made me feel good.

(I thought S4 of OITNB was over-the-top and when I finished it, I thought I wouldn't care about watching S5 at all. So I gave the first episode a shot and was hooked all over again!)

I'm calling bullshit on "Although I realized this weekend that AD is actually already doing a podcast, and with that plus FrockFlicks the audience is probably saturated and everyone who sees my blog/FB/etc. posts on the subject of Patreon thinks I'm stupid, but I've been assuming everyone thinks I'm stupid for a long time, so."

What you have to say is unlike the others. If this kind of shit stopped all the great people from doing the great things, where would we be? So what if others in your field of expertise are doing similar things? There are hundreds of couture houses, all making dresses-- because we like dresses. We like podcasts about dresses, too. Don't let AD and FF make you feel lesser-- they don't do what you do, only you do.

Okay, that was a mouthful, lol, but it was heartfelt. Make your podcast, unencumbered by what others are doing! What you have to say is worth listening to!

aw, I'm sorry I misunderstood-- I thought you were down on yourself! I'm looking forward to your podcast.

Aw what a nice compliment! I've been meaning to ask you if it was possible to just give you a one-time donation toward your podcasting (like through PayPal) rather than signing up to be a Patreon patron. I was looking into it and I didn't really want to go through the whole process giving out personal info and have it automatically taking money out of my account, etc. But I really want to show my support. I enjoyed your posts on the stomacher/petticoat question so much and like learning about those sort of nitty-gritty details, especially for eras that are less well-known.

Er... maybe I'm missing something, but your posts don't seem stupid to me? I just don't know enough about Patreon to be much use!

Aww, that was a nice comment. :) I think fashion and beauty standards tell you a lot about a society, too. Although it makes me wonder what people will say about our time. (Which I'll take to my own DW/LJ so I don't hijack your entry!)

I grew up in the Albany 'burbs. My parents still live in Bethlehem. I swear it's always hotter now than it was when I was a kid. We didn't have AC and there were usually 2 or 3 90 degree days. Not all summer!

I got sidetracked earlier and just posted on LJ about something a little different - but it's old photos, and I'd actually like your thoughts on one of the dates! (You'll know what I mean if/when you see it.)

I really do! I wanted to donate on Patreon, but I got a little scared by the steps. :S
