Snake Oil: Magnetic, mysterious, and exceedingly sexual in nature. A blend of exotic Indonesian oils sugared with vanilla.

Very sharp in the bottle, softer on me; as it dries, I lose the disinfecty tinge. Quite similar to Van Van, Voodoo Lily, and Has No Hanna, which is not really that surprising, considering that I'm bad at picking out spice notes individually! HNH and VV are darker, VL has the floral note. (I can't quite sense a difference between VV and HNH, to be honest.) I think I like it more than those three, a bit, though I get the sense a lot of people love it a lot more than me.

Allergies have started. :((( I'm not into it.

Finished my blog post on the New Look! Gosh it's hard to get ahold of mid-century primary sources. Editions Jalou used to host a lot of relevant fashion mags, but something must have happened to that because it's been down for like a year.

The weather was nasty all day, so I never even got outside my apartment. How can it rain all day and still give me itchy eyes? A mystery.

Snake Oil improves a lot on aging. My bottle is about ten years now and that medicinal smell is completely gone. Still not a super favourite of mine, but still nice.

What a yummy post about the New Look, thank you for writing it!

Van Van and Has No Hanna are both magikal oils, but don't let that stop you from wearing them on a daily basis, as they are both positive cheer-you-up scents. But it is interesting your take on Snake Oil. That is one of the core scents of the BPAL line, and there are a lot of variations on the theme (the current Serpent Spring collection, for example). As Scripsi says, not a super favorite, but still nice.

I love snake oil on me, although I just don't relate to the scent the way they describe it. I get the warmth and spices but personally I don't associate that scent with 'sexual' exotic mystery.

The descriptions get a little .... extra. Which is fine from a marketing point of view, really. But when reviewers post that they "feel the hot sun on their face as they glide in a trireme over the Nile..." I will never forget how I eyerolled reading that review!
