There is way way too much Izzy on the OFMD kinkmeme

Okay, I am going to sew this weekend. It's three days long and the dress is really quite simple, so I should be able to manage it! Butterick B5556 but with the sleeves cut short and a scooped neckline; I love it because the magyar sleeves are obvs way easier than set-in ones, but also I made a version of this in blue gingham (now sadly too tight) and was complimented IMMEDIATELY upon exiting a parking garage in Manhattan, which is not a thing that normally happens there. I am absolutely greedy for compliments so this was a very meaningful experience.

Slowly going crazy as the period between the due date and actual reveals (publishing date) of the Hurt/Comfort Exchange drags on ... I can't tell if it's much longer than usual for exchanges or if it just seems that way because I finished writing and posted so many days prior to the due date. But see above, I'm desperate for validation and I need to know that my recip likes the story. It has been WEEKS since I posted it.

I picked some rhubarb the other day as a few leaves were getting really big, and I'm planning to make some custard and have rhubard'n'custard one of these days. Going to go to the garden store today and get some more strawberries to plant and maybe some more flowers of some kind for the front garden, as I've trimmed the daffodil leaves and it's all bare now.

Finished my OFMD reunion fic but I need to edit it. Well, the second and third chapters, the first is already posted. I think I've read the third chapter too many times because I hate it a little, but hopefully that will pass. I c/p'd a number of prompts from the kinkmeme into a doc to write as well, and I'm kind of writing this post as I'm fighting inside between doing that and editing, so procrastination seems like a good third option. But also I want to make an OFMD-themed quilt? Based on applique blocks, which I have planned out; these would have narrow borders between them, and I would quilt the borders with some kind of basic design that looks like a chain. Then there would be a broader border around the whole thing with edelweiss in the corners and a wave-pattern quilting. This is incredibly ambitious for someone with terrible executive function, but my mom agreed to do the piecing which for me would be a major stumbling block (as it's boring and my brain cannot be tricked into it), so maybe it can happen.

I'm so lucky! My mom and I are such very different people, haha. I know she will think all the hand-sewing I'm preparing to do would be torture.

OT, but am I the only OFMD fan who doesn't care that much about Izzy? I find him interesting in concept, I like the actor, but I'm way more invested in... anyone else, TBH. I think I see him the way I saw Draco in the HP fandom. Interesting character, but also kind of annoying and snivelling. If I were in the fandom I'd be more interested in Oluwande, Jim, Stede, Ed... anyone else, actually.

(No shade to anyone who likes him! Just my opinion. And again, it's not that I don't appreciate the character and his complexity, I just... don't go much further beyond that.)

No, defs not, I don't really care about him at all. (He has two lines in the fic I just finished writing and only because I was like, "well, I guess he would comment on that.") I was actually thinking that he's a lot more like Snape in terms of fannish role - there are SO many people who seem to think that he's an asshole for a good reason (he actually does the finances and knows the situation is bad, the ship would be in terrible shape if he weren't telling everyone to do basic maintenance, etc.) much like people claiming that Snape was mean to students to prepare them for the real world/the war or because they were so unsafe in the potions classroom. And there's a huge desire, apparently, for fics where he's sick or hurt or his past as a victim of sexual abuse comes out and everyone realizes how wonderful he actually is and takes care of him and supports him, which is something I remember being a big deal in Snapefic (people realize he actually gets horribly tortured by Voldemort as a matter of course and so on). I sort of get it in that he, Ed, and Stede all seem to be characters people immediately identify with and then watch the show through a prism of "I want them to be validated and taken care of and apologized to," but OTOH he's never actually shown to be right about anything. He's not "massaging the crew", he can't keep order when he's captain (and he's shown abusing his authority/trying to lord his position over the crew rather than having things get done efficiently), he doesn't have the imagination or environmental awareness to get Ed's plan in ep 4, etc. He's just an asshole! But Con O'Neill is lovely.

I get the people who enjoy him as a terrible little fuckwit and I've enjoyed a few fics written from his perspective that are just blatantly misreading the room because of his own spite and nastiness, because that's funny. But blatant Izzy love is something I'll unfollow or just not follow over.
