Finished the heel! This sock is at least half done! The overall size is determined by the yarn itself and it seems like the photos of women's socks show the length of the foot and leg/ankle part of the sock as equal, so since these are for a man's foot I expect I used up more of it and the leg will be shorter. I hope. Because I am a bit sick of sockage after all that messing around with the heel (which came out with too many stitches on one side for some reason, I think I must have misunderstood some of the instructions).

The yarn is dyed to measure and you hope it fits, or you break and tie on the new color when you're ready to turn the heel?

The former. Although I'm using the black/grey one at the link, and it doesn't seem to have the patterning you see in some of the really bold ones, just a kind of general variation - which is good, because I'm also doing it toe-up from the center of the ball, which apparently is the opposite as intended.

Ahhh the satisfaction of turning a heel! I always end up with more stitches somehow too, thankfully never so many that they aren't easy to decrease away with an extra round. Also a big fan of shorter-legged socks, they just need to cover an ankle and then theyre done!

Yeah, I just kept going with the heel reinforcement and also had to do a couple of p3tog on one side. Hopefully the second sock won't be too obviously different ...
