I wish someone could explain to me why I'm watching World Without End. It's pretty much exactly like Pillars of the Earth, in ways that make me retroactively dislike Pillars of the Earth. Everyone is either Good or Bad; if you're Bad you'll never do anything good or try to redeem yourself, and also you treat women horribly, and if you're Good you have modern beliefs. If there are two brothers, one will be a brutish tool (and misogynist) and one will be a delicate craftsman. If you're a woman, you can either be independent and modern and Good, or manipulative and self-serving and Bad, or a beautiful piece of set dressing. And the usual evil church stuff.
It didn't annoy me so much in the first one because it was just kind of flat writing, but when it becomes bad writing and a pattern it's obnoxious.
