Last night I made a judicious purchase from Joann's, for a cheap red cotton check, cheap white stuff for petticoats, buckram, and brown silk to cover a bonnet. Because I haven't made An Outfit in ages (though I have several "finished" ones that need fixing), and I've been thinking a lot lately about the 1860s. And I feel like with the mess I made of the 1840 dress, I've learned some things and (especially with a pre-made Kay crinoline) I'll be able to make something that fits well and that will boost my self-confidence and self-esteem. That's logical, right? And I'm considering doing the 3-for-$30 pattern deal from Lynn McMasters, because I really know goddamn nothing about millinery and making a shitty bonnet will negate all the good feeling from the dress fitting, right?

Basically, I decided a few weeks ago that it was okay for me to spend money without feeling bad about it and I've been spending money since then.

When did The Mindy Project turn into a Lumia commercial? I'm not usually very quick to pick these things up, so you know it's not subtle.

It's so cold here. I don't understand. It's no longer in the 20s or even the 30s, why is it so cold? And at the same time, I woke up at 4:30 this morning, totally sweltering!

I started to save the Magasin des Modes plates, but then realized there are 680 images. Um. I probably addressed that at one point in time and then forgot about it. I could see translating them year by year for, like, a book version, but I just can't do all that for my blog. (Oh, right, I was going to do the Journal de la Mode.)

Speaking of a book version, I haven't heard from April at FIT in ages. She was going to do a book on the Galerie des Modes and wanted to include my translations, remember? I emailed her months and months ago when I finished translating them, and she told me she wouldn't be getting to that until she finished her book with the other Cassidy. I could swear she posted about it being done a while ago, so maybe she'll be getting in touch later this spring!
