I have an IMPORTANT THING to share
May. 10th, 2011 11:17 am(NB It's not really that important)
So, for the past few years I've wanted to get involved with some kind of re-enacting group, but it hasn't been feasible. For several reasons. When I was in Binghamton, I knew I was leaving soon and didn't want to make the social effort to meet a ton of people if I was just going to have to do it again somewhere else. When I was working and going to classes, I had zero free time to do anything. When I lost my job I was halfway through my degree, and I was back to the old "it's way too hard to make that social effort when I'm leaving so soon."
But finishing school means that I'm not planning on picking up and leaving once I get home, because I'll be working in the area. Hopefully the Museum of Dance will employ me quickly (a family friend says they've been expanding the department) and so I won't have to juggle a part-time job and a volunteership/internship, which will give me more free time. First priority goes to my thesis project, of course, but I do have stays already (1730s, but they'll do until I have the time to make proper rounded 1770s ones). Mom will do it with me so the social effort won't be as difficult, and she has a student whose family is with the 2nd Albany, so she can find out how we can get involved without having a soldier in the family.
And when I get home, I'm going to get some polyfill and cheap tights and pad out my dress form properly so I can use it for draping and checking the fit of muslins. Just a few more weeks now.
ETA: And I just got Conspiracy of Kings from the library and it's everything I could have wished for. ♥ Every time Sophos thinks about how he's trying to do something like Eugenides I just squee. Every time.

Date: 2011-05-10 06:31 pm (UTC)OMG I just finished reading the four books for the first time, and immediately went back to start reading The Thief again. It's very entertaining to reread after Conspiracy. I didn't know anybody else had read them. Queen of Attolia is my favorite, pretty much because I ship that so hard.
