chocolatepotI never got around to watching S2 and S3 of Ashes to Ashes, but I'm finally doing it now. The reason I stopped was that A2A just didn't have the things I liked about LoM, which were
- Sam's by-the-book tendencies vs. Gene's loose-cannon tendencies; they pay lip service to that with Alex, but really it's more about the light touch vs. the blunt instrument. Gene's not as bad in the 1980s as he was in the 1970s, most of the time.
- How different the 1970s were from now; the 1980s are different, yeah, but there isn't quite that same HOW WILL SAM DEAL WITH THIS LACK OF TECH/UNDERSTANDING?? drama.
- The fucking clown, too creepy.
And then I was annoyed by the way everyone was okay with Nelson but for some reason an Italian restauranteur is hilarious and ripe for mockery, it's just weird.
But I know that the whole afterlife/purgatory thing is explained eventually, and I like Alex/Gene (hits all the kinks I talked about the other day), so I'm going to finish it this time to see if it ever explains a) how Sam was able to change history in LoM (with that casino owner) and b) how purgatory's timeline can move faster than RL, like, is it going to be 2500 there when it's 2050 here?
ANYWAY. I've added trying to write a Austenish game for Choice of Games to my plate, and then the museum asked me to fix a torn kimono. Too much, too much. Tomorrow I'm going to try draping that jacket for Fort Ti. :/
