Hand-sewing is such great relaxation
Jul. 25th, 2012 09:36 pmSo far I've sewn the side seams on the bodice of my 1911 dress (the awesome thing is that the bodice is all one piece - technically, it's supposed to have gussets in the side seams, but I cut them in one) and the skirt seams. The skirt could possibly be a bit tighter, but then I don't have a petticoat yet. Next step is to gather the bodice waist and attach to the skirt. There's a waistband, but it's applied on top of the waist seam for some reason. Oh, oops, I need to check what the original seam finishes are first and do that.
The corset's too big, though. I seem to have a problem making corsets where I always make them too big for some reason. Maybe I underestimate my own squish factor? It's obnoxious. I should do a second 1911 corset, though, now that I know how it goes, maybe take this one apart and cut the pieces down instead. But then I'd have to unpick all the flat fells ...
Maybe this is weird of me, but - I'm watching Deadwood, I've seen Pillars of the Earth and Scoop, and Ian McShane just does not sound British to me. In Pillars I actually thought he was American, not trying too hard to sound British, and then I reread the Lovejoy storyline in Scary Go Round (...) and found out that he actually is British. In Deadwood a character even remarked on his accent. Why does he sound Mid-Atlantic or something?
