I wish I had some thorough late 1770s English fashion magazines to study as well, with the same kind of detailed pictures and descriptions as Galerie des Modes. I am learning so many things and have vocabulary to describe things I couldn't before, but it would be really nice to know how many of these words - and not just words, but concepts of construction and things needing separate names - were universal to the fashion. For example, were manchettes and bonshommes perceived as different things in English, or were they just "ruffles"? Going to have to take a second look at the Ladies Magazines on Google Books at some point.

But I am also super happy that I've finally cracked what coupé means (that a piece is cut out of a differently colored fabric) and have become pretty sure that sleeves en pagode are those that are cut and pleated to fit around the elbow (and that's one of the things I meant above, too - were those also called pagoda sleeves in English, or just seen as "the new sleeve"?).

I want to watch the ends of Parade's End and Bletchley Circle, but I have to finish typing this so I can apply for the four positions I found while I do so. I made a promise to myself that I would get that done, and if I have to hold shows hostage for it, so be it. Unfortunately two of the positions are internships and are likely unpaid, and I'm pretty sure I could get them but I hate the idea of getting them and then turning them down. Last night Dad was urging me to look for jobs on CraigsList because he thinks they're more likely to get responses than Monster mainly, I'm pretty sure, because I've been using Monster, and hes probably think the opposite if I'd been using CraigsList. I don't understand why it's so hard for him to get that I'm not failing to get jobs because I'm not working hard enough for them, I apply to basically every admin assistant job that comes up on Monster, it is because of my degree and internships. It is so clear that I would keep looking for museum jobs and possibly leave after six months that they don't want to bother taking the risk when they could hire someone who's equally inexperienced-but-smart but hasn't been to grad school and just wants a job. It's like he's living in the same crazy world that script-writers seem to be in, where people get jobs because the hiring person likes the cut of their jib and knows they could pick it up quickly.
