I know candy corn is literally corn syrup and dye held together with sugar, but it is so unbelievably good.

I helped out at the library book sale for a bit today, bringing two books with me so I wouldn't be tempted, but the thing is then Mom asks me to go around and tidy up a bit, which led to looking at the books, which led to wanting the books. I only spent $5, but I got:

- Marguerite Henry's Album of Horses: no reasons needed, it's MH
- Diary of a Provincial Lady, by E. M. Delafield, a reprint of a book from 1931: looks like adorable social commentary
- The Secret Duke, by Jo Beverley: one of the romance novelists I consistently like, involves kidnapping and rescues
- Bergdorf Blondes, by Plum Sykes: looks like the kind of posh NYC social commentary I like
- My Family and Other Animals, by Gerald Durrell: I love the adaptation so I thought I'd give it a go
- Rumpole Rests His Case, by John Mortimer: never read any of these, but it was there so why not
- Poise and Personality Office Companion for Men and Women, from 1935: it's so funny, you would not believe it
- K. E. Mills's The Accidental Sorcerer and Witches Incorporated: I haven't heard of them, but I haven't been reading fantasy lately and they look funny. Mixed reviews on Amazon
- A Guide to Quality, Taste, & Style, by Tim Gunn: oh god, you can so hear his voice in every line
- Alice Adams, by Booth Tarkington: it's from 1921 and has adorable pictures and I have no idea what it's about; looking at Amazon I see it's about social climbing and commentary and I'm happy about that

Also I picked up Broadway Melody of 1936 from the free bin upstairs, I don't even know where the VHS player is but I felt I needed it.

Last night I was thinking about the whole YA thing and was looking at my bookshelves for subjects to compare, but most of my YA has gone down to the basement in boxes. But of course I couldn't do that to Diana Wynne Jones, I have a classics shelf. And I saw Deep Secret, and it was like, why am I not reading that right now? So I'm reading Deep Secret right now, and it's even better than I remember.

I should probably be preparing more for Sandy, but it's like ... storms never hit as bad here as they're supposed to. Even in the winter. So I've got food and stuff and my gas tank is full (that wasn't on purpose, it was empty on Friday)

The second live 30 Rock! It's so good.

Having some trouble with the later 1920s. Probably because I believe everything published in 1927 or later is still in copyright (damn you, Disney)? But that shouldn't affect what fashion plates museums scan! So I'm confused. I've used some pictures from the Condé Nast store and I'm trying to find magazine scans, because I trust that they're dated correctly. But it's super hard. And now I've looked it up on Wiki and Gazette du Bon Ton ended in 1925, so that's probably a bigger part of the problem, huh.
