I think Cracked loves the fact that so many of its readers are jerks, because when someone writes an article that slams on Nice Guys they get off on knowing they're speaking to their target rather than shouting into the void.

If The Guardian were airing now instead of ten years ago, it would have such a fandom. Every episode is so angsty, the main character is so ~troubled~ with drug and daddy/mommy issues, there's a closeted gay man (unfortunately he's not that attractive, as he's Raphael Sbarge) ...

Actually, that describes a lot of humor/satire/snarky websites. :P But cracked, for sure.

Saying that you're a nice guy is like a restaurant whose only selling point is that the food doesn't make you sick.

I need to remember that line.

Though actually, saying you're a nice guy is worse. Because blah sex is really soul-draining. So are blah conversations and blah... whatever. Being with someone who's blah makes you feel blah. So it's like, the restaurant will only give you a little bit of salmonella, and you'll have mild intestinal problems that just won't ever go away, and you'll feel guilty for wanting something different.

Edit again: I love this article. "Pretending That Any Self-Improvement Would Somehow Be Selling Out Your True Self." Hah! He says what I have so often thought, but so much more clearly than me. Obviously I need to practice more.

Though tbh, a lot of the stuff he's complaining about is stuff that most people simply grow out of in their late 20s/early 30s. Well, not rich people maybe. But I think, by the time we're 30 or so, the world has smacked most people around enough that we mostly get the picture. We gripe to our friends and family, but we know we've gotta do stuff, and we do, if we can.

Edit again (sorry, caffeine): Wait, Raphael Sbarge isn't attractive?! I love his voice. And I think he's attractive in a normal-guy-I-would-date way.
