I'm reading old Sansa threads on Westeros.org and came across someone saying GRRM encouraged a negative view of her, backing it up with quotes that looked neutral to me. Which fit in with my hypothesis that we're conditioned to read girls with her traits - accomplished, in control of their tempers, beautiful, socially skilled, etc. - who are contrasted with tomboyish girls who lack those traits as unsympathetic/bad, even if there isn't anything specifically negative going on outside of the traits. So I was smug.
