big things have gone down today

I finally got around to depositing the matured savings bonds I got as a kid (five are still left, not done cooking yet) - I put $1,100 into my student loan, which I will probably do with much of my advance. The faster I pay it off, the less I'll be paying in interest! That left enough for me to write that check, and to buy new crumpet rings, and still have a little extra to treat myself if something comes up.
Then I wrote a thank you note to my crazy grandfather, because my particular form of passive-aggression leads me to believe that he will totally be ashamed of how he's acted over the past ten years if I remind him that he did nice things for me once and I prove my saintliness by thanking him when I've seen him at several family dinners and he's never addressed me. Yep, this is very effective. I'm a genius.
Bought rings from Sur la Table, because I'm fancy that way.
Had a minor moment of mis-dating realization (screw the Republican calendar) but recovered, and now I'm well into 1803.
