I can't get over the irony that Labor Day is meant to celebrate unionizing and the improvement of working conditions and today we make a big fuss over it and give people the day off ... yet we also turn it into an opportunity for sales and force everyone in retail to work it. And work twice as hard, because all of the people who have the day off are in the stores, buying stuff when they normally wouldn't. Sad, sad irony.
Updated my LinkedIn profile this morning before work. Used a friend's as a hint for how I should do things, now once again despairing because I've wasted so much time not living in New York and volunteering places. But I literally was at work or class every single day when I was there - in one semester, I had class and work on the same day! But I could have interned half-days after or before class ... Oh well, I am going to start volunteering soon.
I've strained my right middle finger pressing buttons on the Hobart price sticker machine. This is very sad. It's unhappy being extended, I have to type with my right ring finger and press buttons with pointer. Tried icing it, didn't do much. Now pointer is starting to hurt! What now?!
- I really, really like this new era of dark!Doctor. I loved Eleven, but the last season just felt very young, and obvs it's a show for families but it felt like a show just for children at times.
- I love Danny, and I don't think he's going to be Mickey 2.0 as Tumblr says. For one thing, Twelve is not in love with and jealous over Clara. For another, Rory shows that Moffat clearly realizes that Mickey was treated badly and is aware of the hole he could fall into.
- Miss E. (Missy?) strikes me as more than just "this series's villain". TBH, I think she's not going to be an actual villain at all - she's obvs not really his girlfriend, but it just seems too obvious to make her his stalker. Like maybe she's a stalker, but a benevolent one? She does seem to save people from dying. Did she save Dolorous Edd as well? Hope so.
- The Dalek is called Rusty definitely because of RTD.
- This is the second-best Dalek episode (there are not third and fourth-best ones, after this one they are all awful with the exception of the Dalek/Cybermen trash talking scene), after Dalek, mainly because it really felt like Dalek - the Doctor vs. a single Dalek, single Dalek is damaged in some way, military base (ish, in the case of the original episode), the Doctor is like a Dalek. But different enough to still be interesting.
