I thought my hair was finishing up the transition phase, but today it's pretty greasy again. This may be partly because my brush is kind of dirty; I tried soaking it in diluted vinegar yesterday, but it doesn't seem to have done very much. I've tried googling for information and can't find a lot.
No work or volunteering today! I'm doing email stuff that I've been putting off and watching TDS before my phone interview at ten. Trying not to think about that right now, after the mess that was my last one plus my desperation to get out of my job I'm just really jittery about it.
Last night I finished reading Black Mischief (Evelyn Waugh). It was super racist, and the ending was super bleak. I think it's because the one non-racist part of the book was the English Legation puttering around being adorable, so having the envoy's daughter MURDERED AND EATEN AT A FEAST that the main character unthinkingly ORDERED when he LIKED HER was kind of really awful. I had to read several pages from this popular linguistics book I keep next to my bed for such situations where I feel awful at night and need my mind taken off things.
It reminded me a bit of Pratchett's Pyramids, in the beginning when it focused on Seth, and I thought (erroneously) that the story was going to be good to him ... and then it started to go racist for him (I had thought he was going to be the well-meaning reformer who'd become Very English at Oxford, but then after Basil got there he was just flitting from subject to subject and unable to judge between good and bad ideas, and his English skills seemed to go downhill) and he DIED IN THE JUNGLE.
