Dear Once Upon A Time Writer ...
Feb. 18th, 2016 08:17 amI really don't have many DNWs - I like fluff and non-fluff, dark stories and light stories, happy endings and sad endings. The only thing I'm generally not in the mood for is stories about how the villain was actually in the right and the heroes trampled callously over them. Anything else is fine.
Twelve Dancing Princesses: I would love something that shows the princesses having different personalities, acting as sisters, rather than a mass of women. And how did their dancing excursions start, anyway?
Cinderella: For some reason, I really love retellings of Cinderella in different time periods. Anything that deals with any of the characters before, during, or after the traditional narrative, set in a distinct historical time and place, would be so cool. (The stepmother in her first marriage, during the English Regency! The balls as 1920s nightclubs!)
Robin Hood: After just writing the previous request, the idea of a setting swap is of interest ... but the original setting is very good as it is, too. I would be genuinely happy with fic about any of the characters, but have to admit to having a soft spot for the Robin/Marian romance, and for the often-flamboyant and witty Will Scarlet. However, I'd love to read about Marian interacting with Little John and Will or any of the other Merry Men, and how can you write a properly tragic story without the Prioiress?
Diamonds and Toads: A fairly short and less well-known canon. I've always been fascinated by where in the mouth the things come from - do they pop out of the throat? Appear between the lips so you don't accidentally swallow them? Definitely a source for intriguing post-canon fic. Eg, what does the bad sister do to try to stop this? Maybe try to learn magic?
