It's starting to really get to me how much of a cult of personality Sanders is developing. It's not all Sanders supporters, of course, but a lot, or just the most vocal ones. But it's like ... any criticism of Sanders's voting record or past actions or campaign is treated as an unreasonable attack. Supporting him is natural, not supporting him means not being principled/idealistic enough, or having been bought out by the establishment, if the person in question's in the public eye, or it's because the media has been unfair (because of the establishment). He's genuinely not great on race or exactly where I'd prefer on guns, but you can't point that out or discuss it without provoking a firestorm of "but Clinton!" reactions, because the assumption is that you would only want to talk about this in order to subtly argue for her.

This is 100% exactly how fandom shipping wars work, but I'd really rather not have elections be like shipwars. (You can't unsee it now.) This is how I've gone from being genuinely unsure of who I'd be voting for to strongly pro-Clinton.

Positioning yourself as an "outsider" who's operating on common sense rather than politics is nothing new, but I think it's significant that it's resonating so much with so many people. And it's kind of weird/depressing(?) that right now it's seen as way more important than anything else to so many people on both sides of the political spectrum. All that matters is principle. It's not that I think Sanders's platform is bad, it's just incomplete - it depends very, very much on everyone voting again in the midterms, and are they going to? They didn't before. Voting for a presidential candidate with good ideas is exciting, but voting for senators and representatives is boring. Maybe they'll prove me wrong, I don't know.

Anyway, rant over.

I tried to make tablet yesterday, but skimped on the sugar (I think) and so it never set. As usual, when I go to make millionaire's shortbread I get shortbread with tablet on top, and when I try to make tablet I end up with a pan full of caramel. Probably at this point it's too late to reheat it and try to dissolve more sugar in it. I'll just eat the caramel.

Today I corded the neck and arm bands of the chemise (only two rows, the original has five), gathered the chemise, and attached them. It was a pain in the ass. I'm not sure if the simplified cutting arrangement of this pattern makes up for how tedious it is, but then, I've never made an 1860s chemise, so maybe they're always tedious.
