- The latest issue of Dress, which has several things by people I know! Internet know, but still.
- My DiscoverIt Miles card! I decided I should have a credit card instead of just debit cards, because why not? I'm responsible. And it seemed like a card for miles would be best, because I really hate driving for long distances and I've got several trips coming up next year. This one accumulates unlimited miles for any airline, nice.
- A free review copy of Stays & Corsets: Historical Patterns Translated for the Modern Body, which I requested. That I requested it instead of being chosen by them is not that cool, but that I requested it and got it is pretty badass imo. It seems terrifyingly complicated and I can't wait to try it out.
Last weekend I went to the movies again. It's kind of odd that I went to see X-Men Apocalypse at all, because I didn't see First Class or Days of Future Past. All I knew was from osmosis, namely: Charles and Erik are slashy (and I thought this was the usual "two male acquaintances = slash" stuff, but then I went home and dl'd the first movie and no, they're in love), Mystique has a lot of angst about her blueness, all the general X-Men stuff that everyone knows like who has what powers ... I didn't realize that the second movie had completely retconned the old trilogy until later, so I was confused about how we were going to end up in the present someday. Overall, I liked it!
I still don't get the timeline, though. First movie is in 1966, the second is 1973, the third is 1983, right? But nobody seems to have quite aged anywhere near enough ...
I'm not a huge fan of movie plots involving an Ancient Evil, so that didn't thrill me. However, it was nice that they used textbook Middle Egyptian for the Egyptian parts! I recognized that it was a legit translation when I heard nb.i for "my lord" and started listening for more. Good job on that.
I am a huge fan of Kurt, though, because he's really the cinnamon rolliest character ever, in every incarnation, isn't he? Meanwhile, Psylocke and Angel were absolutely pointless.
