Jul. 22nd, 2023 07:52 amHaving one of those weird brain times where I can't get anything done, ie executive dysfunction. I did manage to write a couple of ficlets yesterday and I still don't know how. Just one left! (I took prompts for something to compile into my fiftieth OFMD fic, and then I regretted it because it meant I had to write them, and not only that, I had to finish them before I could post anything else. I create my own restrictions and then I get annoyed at them. But they are good and fun ficlets and I can't wait to post them.)
Trying to get back into sewing. It's damned hard. But so far this morning I have sewn a line of gathering stitches and pinned the gathers into place, which is more than I've done in months. At the rate I'm going, I think it would make the most sense to cut out the long sleeves for this blouse, since I'm unlikely to finish before the fall.

Date: 2023-07-22 04:59 pm (UTC)I didn't realize how much having cats would affect my sewing. Like not even in the "they'll sit on the fabric when you're actively working" thing, but the way that if I leave the work out they'll nest on it, if I leave pattern pieces out they'll nibble on them, etc. And leaving stuff out is often how I remember to actually continue on projects! So it's tough.

Date: 2023-07-24 12:47 pm (UTC)One of the first things my cats learn as kittens is that fabric spread out is to be Left Alone. If it's in a pile, it's fair game, but if it's flat and I am working on it, it's untouchable. Before we bought our house, I didn't have a worktable and had to use the floor for pattern/cutting, which is why that was an important lesson.
I had 5 yards of fabric laid out on the floor and was working on smoothing it out. Trinity, at the time a young tortie, was supervising. She circled the fabric, never letting her paws *quite* touch the selvages, pacing, circling, watching, pacing.
And then she could not stand it anymore, those 5 yards of fabric just laying there, taunting her, mocking, telling her to give in to her darkest desires.
Suddenly, Trinity leaps forward, grabs the corner of the fabric and TAKES OFF.
5 yards.
She didn't get far, the fabric was too heavy for that little cat. She was also never tempted to do that again LOL
