Today at work, I read the manual for PastPerfect Online (seems pretty simple for the most part), mocked up a really nice-looking layout for us, and spent the other six hours - for real - looking at other websites to see what they did that works and what looks/runs poorly. By the way, you can see and search everyone who uses PPO here, and there are LOADS of antique photos on it (since they're easy to store and scan, most likely) as well as a small number of decently dressed and photographed dresses and a larger number of atrociously photographed ones.

I'm most likely going to be bringing everything small down to the archives in the basement where there's a setup for taking pictures against a white backdrop. Things in the house can be shot where they are, it'll look decent. But clothing ... IDK. I took pictures of half the hanging stuff against a white sheet, and they're terrible for anything other than making it possible for people who aren't me to find anything in the first five racks. I don't even like the idea of photographing them lying on a table, it always looks dreadful. But maybe if I were to do lying-flat pictures plus patterns plus as-worn drawings, that would get it all in - but then that might seem like spending way too much time on one aspect of the collection, especially since it's not a highly emphasized aspect. (The Seneca Ray Stoddard photos are considered the most important part, I think.)

The absolute best thing would be if I could commandeer the Stoddard Gallery for a few days, get together some people with bustles and hoops and petticoats of varying sizes, and dress and photograph as many awesome dresses as possible! Why does life not work the way I want it to? I don't understand.
