Tomorrow an interview
Mar. 28th, 2012 06:06 pmSmash 1.08: Wow, this scene with Tom and Derek is really fantastic. Just ... oh my god. That is some amazing acting.
Exhibition is going ... trickily. Not only am I sad about the 18th and 19th century costumes we can't use, some really nice 1920s ones didn't work either. (Too small for child mannequins! FTLOG. Skinny Minnies, as my mother would say.) But I think this version of the fashion room will be more accessible and interesting to casual visitors.
My phone is finally working. That is good.
I am cramping something fierce. That is bad.
- Well, now I feel slightly stupid for being all NO DON'T TELL ME about the salute. I thought it was a revealed-later kind of thing.
- So far, anyway, the movie seems like a really good adaptation.
- The only thing is, I think the movie undersold Gale a bit. I can understand at least a little bit here why people might do the shipwar thing (although come on, Peeta is adorable. Though a bit more hard-edged in the book).
- I definitely think the camouflage indicated in the book sounds less like painting detailed replicas of bark. Let's be real.
- I think part of what draws me into the story so much is the fact that there is a pretty good amount of setup for and other people involved in Katniss becoming The One. She starts off mature and able to hunt for a reason that feels organic rather than just there to make her angsty (perhaps because she mentions other people whose fathers died in the mines?), Cinna and Portia did the eye-catching costumes, Peeta helped with her image ... she wouldn't win without being Katniss at the core, but so many protagonists are just amazing in and of themselves, it's nice to see that it's not just a given that she'd win from the start, you know?
