Decent day of sewing
Sep. 30th, 2012 05:16 pmReally, everyone should make demi-polonaises, they take hardly any time (she said before even planning to order gauze for trim because she's got no job). I need to make a butt pad but shoving a rolled up shirt under there on the dress form makes it look like the petticoat wouldn't need much/any alteration once I do so I'm not worrying.
ETA: Almost finished! I just have to tack on the overskirt and hem (which I don't want to do until I can put everything else on to get the right level for). Now I can go back to these stays that may hopefully fit correctly or at least aren't slightly too big.
One thing I do have to say after doing the patterning I have - people way overuse the backstitch. I think we're so used to the sewing machine that we feel the lockstitch's strength is necessary, but honestly, the running stitch is strong enough for quite a lot. (ANOTHER EPISODE OF CASSIDY-TALKS-GIBBERISH.)
I'm so hungry. I really need to go make dinner but I just don't feel like it.
I decided I should look into getting a job with the state and went to look up civil service exam times. At one point in high school I learned about how in historical China people took a civil service exam to get into the civil service and for some reason assumed this applied to present-day America. No. Actually they have many exams for specific positions, as far as I can tell, and that causes a bit of a problem since I can't see me in any of them, but oh well, I will still try to find one to take.
