Merry Christmas!

With Bella, it is a veritable orgy of presents. Dad and Melissa gave me Period Costume for Stage & Screen, What Clothes Reveal, Seventeenth-Century Women's Dress Patterns, and the Illustrated Guide to Hat-Making (plus other things I am grateful to have, but these are the important ones). Hunnisett has surprised me. I think I assumed that because the book is oldish (though apparently not as old as I thought it was) and because it's for stage and screen, it must be aimed at creating a look. But it turns out that it's actually (I think?) based on extant patterns, with information on adapting them for actors and making petticoats, sleeve supports, etc. from tulle to create the right shape. So I'm excited about that, and the hat-making book because I really really want to make a bonnet.
Bella actually liked my presents instead of just pretending the way she often does, so I am happy. I think everyone really liked my presents. Melissa was really, really into the Heifer Internat'l donation I made for her so I think that's going to be a mainstay for me in years to come with older relatives who are hard to shop for.
I can't get over this Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife sporking/summary, I really can't. I feel like most of the time when people do this for historical stuff, it's movies, and for some reason I don't care that much about accuracy in movies. But books ... and it's nice to see someone point out all of the things that I would point out and get frustrated over.
