I don't know how else to describe The Fair Barbarian. It starts off in this quiet English country town full of women and elegant economies, focusing on Miss Mattie Belinda, a very meek, polite, and well-liked woman. But then it gets even more ficcish when her American exchange student* niece comes to stay and ~shakes things up~ while also making this something of a crossover with A Little Princess by being Sara Crewe raised by her father out west.
Been slaving over my bodice. Why is it that I so frequently make the sleeves narrower than the armscye? I just don't understand it. I did it in the corset cover but since it was unimportant I just took tucks in it D: which was bad but the whole back of the corset cover is pretty terrible. However, I seem to have achieved the proper bodice tightness for the first time ever. Hopefully tomorrow I will get more done, make new sleeves and set them in, put on the sleeve flounces. I did have to take a long break to have my car inspected, and then I had to have the rear tires replaced (~$200) because they were down to the wear line. SUPER~~~
* It just occurred to me that, while "American exchange student" to me is one of The Fic Tropes like "X's long-lost daughter" and "Y is secretly in pain the whole time", it really is pretty specific to Harry Potter, isn't it?
