More hoop talk
Oct. 18th, 2013 10:25 am- Okay I am decreasing to 120" because 128" seems excessive, also I was not factoring in petticoat layers and so on with the percentage. 66% of my height is the final measurement, a bit less is right for the hoop itself.
- That's still pretty wide in terms of the range of extant hoops, but I am probably always going to be representing middle-to-upper class women, whether in a just for fun way or while doing some kind of thing at a house museum, so it's not super important to Show The Average. But clearly I'm still fussed over it because I'm writing about it now, even though nobody is sitting there reading this and thinking "oh man, what is she doing? 120"? Is she even trying to accurately represent the common woman?"
- So I went out and bought yards and yards of polyethylene tubing - as recommended for making hoops for mannequins, not accurate, but slightly cheaper overall than the kit from Kay Gnagey - and a pack of wiring for thermometers(? it seemed the best of the available options) and nylon couplings ... and I realized when I started to mess around that I bought piping and couplings that both have 3/8" outer diameters. *smack* In my defense, that was the smallest size they had, so I might have realized the mistake if there had been 1/4" couplings. As it is, I'll have to order them online and in black ... but they're much cheaper, so. Even with shipping, they're still cheaper.
I meant to do a lot of shopping in Saratoga, but it turned out that various things weren't there/I already had them, so I didn't spend as much as I thought I would. Success!
