Dec. 21st, 2013 10:00 pmI cut short my Christmasing at Mom's today to come back down here and see Frozen with Melissa, Bella, and a couple of Bella's friends, because Disney princesses >>> family time, sorry everyone.
I loved it so much more than I expected to, even though I'd found out on Tumblr that it was not about making The Snow Queen more boy-friendly and was more about following in Brave and Tangled's footprints re: making stories more about the girls. So, stuff:
- The only way I could have loved it more would have been if it were in hand-drawn animation.
- From promo pictures and stuff I imagined Olaf to have a really obnoxiously dopey and kind of deep voice, which I hated. And I just hated his character design. I almost didn't want to see the movie because of how annoying I imagined the snowman to be. And he was actually adorable???
- ACT OF TRUE LOVE BEING SISTERLY KILL ME NOW (WITH JOY). That was an excellent plot twist. While overall their whole dynamic plucks at my suspension of disbelief - did they just never see each other at all? did Anna literally never see anyone else for years? - they were really well done and the whole thing was just awesome.
- I almost started crying at Do You Want To Build A Snowman. SHE JUST DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHY HER SISTER WON'T BE WITH HER.
- I had no clue that Hans was going to be evil, and TBH I had been at first shipping him with Anna (thinking that here was a cute ship of dorks that would just be kind of backgroundish) and then, when it became apparent that Anna/Kristoff was the best thing ever, Hans/Elsa, because he seemed like a good leader and a noble guy, which I thought Elsa would like ... so I was a little disappointed that he turned out to be such a jerk. double weddings 4eva
- Someone's said that it seems more like a stage musical than a Disney movie, which I totally agree with. I'm downloading the soundtrack (legally, from iTunes) right now because I must have it.
- Fixer Upper was so goddamn adorable, I can't even.
