chocolatepotI enjoyed this episode so much more than the last! The end seemed to tie itself up a bit quickly, and also be a bit too reminiscent of that one with Jessica Raine (Google says: Hide) ... but it was a good tie-up. The level of predictability was just about right: I could tell the Architect was going to be one of them, they were heisting for good, the Teller (nice wordplay thar) needed to be freed and was more than just a brain-sucker - but I couldn't tell exactly how it would go down or who it was. (Actually, I thought it was the shape-shifter at first ... because it seemed to unlikely. Yay logic.)
The clones were a good atmospheric and characterization touch, but imo irrelevant enough that maybe there's something related to the season arc in that? Or did I just miss some thematic tie?
Having just read yet another Moffat is Objectively Bad essay, I remembered an earlier one in which his tendency to save everyone was pointed out, and now that stands out to me whenever I'm watching. I didn't want the characters to die - and over all of New Who I have found a lot of the minor character deaths to up the ante kind of annoying - but at the same time, given that New Who has contained a lot of minor characters that die in heartfelt situations, I can see why this particular thing would annoy people and seem out of place. And there is a concession.
One thing I really appreciated was the subversion of the "everyone in the heist has a role" trope. I was worried that Clara's "heart" or something was going to open the last lock and was cringing in advance, and then it didn't happen! Yay!
Cannot wait for more Danny in the next episode! I like him so much already. (Didn't like that competitive line at the end - here's hoping that Danny and Twelve's relationship falls closer to Rory/11's than to Mickey/9's.)
Patterned very very hard today so I don't have to go back on Friday. Left a few things unpatterned, but what I have is very good - and I need to go back to the big Albany museums for a few more dresses anyway.
