It happened!
Nov. 7th, 2014 06:49 pmMy advance finally came through! And the gods of the currency exchange being on my side, it was a nice deposit into my bank account. Just paid five months of my student loan, which should put me almost a year ahead of schedule.
Netflix suggested The 100 and I marathoned it yesterday and today; now catching up on the most recent episodes on Hulu. I'm surprised at how much I like it - I did have a hard time getting over the utter stupidity of sending 100 juvenile offenders a million miles away with zero adult supervision (have none of the characters read Lord of the Flies? Because that's basically what happened), and watching dumb teenagers act like dumb teenagers in dangerous situations isn't my favorite thing, but overall it's very well done. I'd rather see people creating a new civilization than fighting with various groups all the time (and I have issues with the Grounders and Reapers because, seriously, a century on and they're cutthroat bands of warriors? and have developed totally new languages?), but the story is very compelling and I like the characters a lot. The only thing is, so many deaths, you get very nervous for most of the ones you like.
I'm alone tonight with the dog and something I couldn't hear terrified him after dinner. He's curled up on the couch, glued to my side. Occasionally shaking. What on earth?
I made up the second top, finished it today (except a tiny bit of hand-stitching). The rayon jersey was tough to work with and in the future I think I'll try to stick to cotton, or maybe just a heavier weight. It's a little tight in the bust, but it's supposed to be - the bigger issue with this and the first one I did is the armscye being off the shoulder. Like, not just modern-knitwear-loose-armscye but like the shoulders are too wide. Since it's happened on both, I guess I should just take as a given that I need to narrow the shoulders on modern tops. (I guess I have narrow shoulders?)
look at this atrocity
Because I'm in a new era of money-sense, I'm obviously not spending all of the advance, but I'm thinking about maybe - since I am sewing so much lately - getting another pattern. Or, because I have a billion patterns, using one of the ones I bought because it looked good but never used yet because I was afraid of it.
But tomorrow I'm going to go back to working on my Regency dress and Regency book. They've been back-burnered for too long.
