I think I set the front straps too close together. The pattern calls for them to be basically down the center front, which is very wrong and probably why the example shown in the pattern looks like a beehive; I moved them out a bit, but without the wire in the skirt it's hard to see how it's going to hang. I started to pin wire in place above the skirt, but I should probably hold off until I do fix the straps.

Re: hoop wire, by the way, in case you haven't used it, you might want to be aware that it's not actually much like wire. It's two flat, very very narrow steels spaced about an eighth of an inch apart, the whole thing encased in cardboard and then wrapped with white cotton. Maybe really sturdy tin snips would cut all this? I only have wire cutters and it takes some back-and-forth action plus regular scissors and a boxcutter to break the cardboard between the steels. And the fasteners are really heavy as well - I had to pound on them with a hammer.

What else has been going on. I got my Canton interview lined up for next Wednesday, hoping to get someone else to drive me because it's awfully far - 4.5 hrs going around the Adirondacks, 3.5 going through. Been playing Black & White 2 ... a lot, we'll see how long I keep bothering, but I expect not more than a week.
