I used to be winning at Facebook because I only friended people I knew and liked in real life - my feed was pretty liberal or at least apolitical. And then I started friending people through reenacting groups ...

On the one hand, seeing multiple radically pro-Confederate posts today was super unnecessary. On the other, I got a lot of satisfaction out of defriending, so it was probably worth it.

I made clotted cream for the tea party at SLCHA, and very little of it was eaten. I put the thick globs with some of the liquid cream into one of my pyrex tupperwares, stuck it in my fridge, went away for a day, and now I have something like 2-2.5 cups of homogeneously thick clotted cream. What do I do with all of it?? I have some scones leftover from the tea as well, but only like six, that's not going to take all of it. Buy some strawberries I guess? How long do you think it will keep?

Ugh, gross. That's worse than the baby poop pictures that drove me off Facebook.

Re: the cream, I've never done anything with clotted cream before, is it freezable? Could it be made into some sort of ice cream-type thing?

That's the trouble with the reenacting world. There are a bunch of very liberal people who are into the past because it's interesting and another culture (the academic view - and you know the stereotypes about academia, politically) and then there are a bunch of pretty conservative people who are into the past because it was "a simpler time" and we need to get away from these politically-correct buffoons who are such a tiny minority of the world but dictate everything we do and say ...

With the Confederacy it gets really hard to tell at first glance, because there are some very interesting Southerners who say, hey, Virginia/Georgia/etc. is my heritage and the situation is more complicated than "Confederacy bad racists, Union good abolitionists!" while acknowledging that Lincoln did not goad the Confederacy into attacking Fort Sumter and that it's a good thing the south lost the war. But there are of course also the ones that seem deceptively reasonable and then burst out with "the seceding states would have come back in a matter of months" and "by saying you don't want the Stars and Bars hanging in [public place] you're ignoring how racist the north was!" I just don't have time for this. If I'm going to see this kind of bullshit I want it to be on BadHistory, being ripped into because it's terrible.

I could probably freeze it, but I don't think it will be as nice as it is not frozen. I think I'll just have to make some more scones and gorge on them.
