Sad, so sad

This red dress is not coming together. Mainly because the fabric is, as usual, too stiff. Have I ever made anything that failed because the fabric was too soft? This has a cowl neck that doesn't work at all in gabardine, and I can tell gathering at the waist won't work. The waist is the same size as the last few dresses (size 12) but seems too small. I'm going to put the bodice and skirt together - pleating the bodice instead of gathering - and see how it is then, since judging too early sometimes screws with my head. The cowl won't work, but I can probably just turn that down a bit more and make it bateau.

This morning I was sitting on my bed and turned to look at my closet to decide what to wear, and pulled a muscle. Jiminy cricket. I've been standing like I'm wearing a neck brace all day.
