This morning I just bummed around, working on a couple of blog posts about the process of making RWD (in a little part a response to the reviews?) - I can't decide if they're a good idea or not and was feeling really stupid/bad/shitty about at one point, probably due to PMS - and watching last night's tv and all that, because I'd decided to pick up the week's bagels around lunch so I could get a bagel there as well. I decided right before I left that I was going to clean in the afternoon, but when I got back it seemed very clear to me that I couldn't clean without shopping for new storage options first.

I hate going to Walmart because it's an awful business and the Waltons are such awful people, but it's really the only option for stuff like this. So I drove over and got:

- A bookcase (five shelves, 56 lbs, yes I moved it by myself and got it into my apartment on my own)
- A metal rack to stand over the toilet
- A shower rack
- A covered clothes rack
- A dish-drainer tray
- A laundry basket
- A pack of turquoise clothes hangers
(- A bottle of vitamin D3 chewables because I left off doing that a while ago and I haven't had bloodwork done in a year but probably my levels are still low)

I set up the toilet rack first. I tend to use the back of the toilet as a shelf for the things you'd put in a medicine cabinet, basically, because I don't have one, so I was able to transfer them onto it (although the rack having bars instead of a solid bottom on the shelves doesn't hold them upright as solidly as I'd like ... but it was light and cheap). The toilet turned out to be flat against the wall, but I took off one of the support bars and screwed it back on under the plumbing stuff. Maybe I'll get a small tray somewhere, sometime to put on one of the racks for the smaller items.

Then I made the bookcase. That was difficult, I had to google how to do compression dowels and I figured out the metal turny things on my own, I got wood shavings everywhere. But once it was made and up against the wall, I took a ton of the books that were packed into boxes laying around or in my other bookcase or on the floor or leaning against this or that piece of furniture and put them on it. They look good and the room looks better! Then I tidied up other things on the small bookcase and dusted it and that's very nice. We're starting to get to the point that I could show other people a photo of this apartment without feeling horribly ashamed!

The dish-drainer tray replaced the pan I've been using, which generally looks disgusting and I have to wash it every time I need to make granola. Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can do anything about the fact that I need to constantly move it off the stove because there's just nowhere I can put it permanently.

The laundry basket replaced my old one, which is broken in several places, and which is now the recycling box. Because it has handles it should be easier to take stuff down to the bins and maybe I'll empty it more frequently?

The clothes rack I haven't set up yet, but it's going to go in my place in the basement and I'm going to put all of my historical clothes in it (that can be hung). Part of the mess behind the couch is folded up Victoriana I don't have anywhere else to put, and there's a stuffed over-full box under my bed as well that could hold other things.

I even curled up the cords of my computer/charger/external HD/lamp and used twist-ties to hold them together! And tidied up my high closet shelves (coat and bedroom) so that I could put other boxes up on them. And I emptied a box sitting around and them put some things to take into the basement in it.

I was considering going back tomorrow and getting a real coffee table (I'm using a plastic fabric bin) and a shoe rack to put next to the door ... but then this evening I bought two pairs of Duchesses - Tissots and Savoys, both more than 50% off - so maybe I should hold off. We'll see how I feel after doing more tidying tomorrow morning.

Watching Interstellar. It IS amazing, everyone was right.
