chocolatepotAt some point the third season of The Americans went up on Amazon Prime. I don't know why I find this show so compelling, it has so many things I'm normally not into, but I love it. And it's not just that I have a thing for Matthew Rhys. Could do without the home dental surgery, though, now THIS is disturbing.
Today has been kind of irritating in a low key way, like a tiny piece of grit under your skin that rubs. People were wrong on the internet about the history of white wedding dresses, I went to look up a post I made on it not long ago and came across someone else having been wrong in the internet (like seriously wrong, they said white was associated with poor brides and most women preferred red or gold), so I posted a correction in case someone else came across it, they lost their mind and argued with me there and in the first wrong place ... It did lead to a pretty funny "how dare you presume to judge me, what are your credentials??"/"well, I didn't really care about your credentials anyway, it was your tone" exchange, but it was still annoying. At one point I looked at my book on Amazon and the people complaining that 1) there aren't any instructions (there are instructions!!!) or 2) the fashion plates don't match up with the dresses (I can't help it!!!). And then at the collections committee meeting tonight (where I left a light on as I was leaving) the one member who always does this was like "this black satin winter hood was probably for mourning" and when I pointed out that it was lustrous and shiny he didn't go for it and I just, why does everyone have to be wrong and not take my word for it ever? Oh, and apparently the collections committee is supposed to approve accessions but nobody told me that so I've been accessioning things for months without their approval. And the internet/phone went out and I couldn't make it come back.
But my back is healing. It felt very stiff when I woke up, probably because I sleep on my side, but gradually loosened up during the day. I got several things done at work and handled my first payday without Sue, so that was good. Had a nice pizza for dinner, I managed to cook it all the way through. And I don't have to work Saturday, which is ~*~wonderful ~*~.
I've had a good idea for the Pattern challenge, but I don't know if I can pull it off. It would be so impressive, though. Would have to be a secret, but I'm really into it. We'll see. I do already have the material, which is a point in its favor.
ETA: actually, hmm, I like the idea I'm getting for the second half of the year. Monochrome: small project, coif; Pattern: big project, secret; Historicism: medium project, replace thesis dress; Heroes: small project, ??? (but easy to fudge just about anything I want, I have a ton of heroes - Edwardian underthings for Lucile?); Red: big project, Dorothea bodies; Special Occasion: small project, some kind of evening headdress or accessory. Alternating them like that might work.
