chocolatepotHopefully I didn't request too few options, but I apologize in advance if I throw a spanner into the matching works for this exchange. Though I did offer quite a bit to make up for it.
On a general basis, I like happy endings and I'd prefer some measure of that. Bittersweetness is okay, a fic being set when it looks like the two won't get together is okay (is wonderful), but no death, no breakups, etc. please. They're all pretty fluffy ships, tbh, this is probably unnecessary. Gifts can range from one character in the pairing thinking about the other to the two characters interacting pre-getting-together to an actual romantic (or sexy, should you want to go that way) scene.
Chalion Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold
Lupe dy Cazaril/Betriz dy Ferrej: These two! I do love an "I'm too old"/"no, be with me" dynamic. One possibility would be to redo a scene from Curse of Chalion from Betriz's perspective.
Anastasia (1997)
Dimitri | Dmitry/Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova: Anything you want to write, of course, but a couple of things that come to mind for me include whether they had any interaction at all before the revolution (bb!Dimitri was clearly not shy about sneaking out of the kitchens), what their lives were like between the prologue and act one, and what their life is like after Anya gives up princesshood - what do they do, what do they live on? Do they visit her grandmother from time to time?
Emily of New Moon - L. M. Montgomery
Ilse Burnley/Perry Miller
Teddy Kent/Emily Byrd Starr: Both of these ships are, of course, canon and adorable. While I would love a little romantic ficlet set during the period of Emily's Quest or very soon after, it would be pretty neat to get a glimpse of either or both, say, five or ten years on. What's married life like for them?
Perry Miller/Emily Byrd Starr: We can't joke about Ilse/Teddy because I find that thought too painful, but Perry/Emily does make me think a bit. What if Emily had accepted him, or if she came to love him later?
Mansfield Park - Jane Austen
Tom Bertram/Fanny Price
Henry Crawford/Fanny Price: No offense to Edmund, but I've always been fascinated by these two AU premises. How could either of these gentlemen respond to falling in love with Fanny without stepping all over her? How would Fanny take to being a lady of stature and managing an estate?
Original Work
I think it's great that there are so many possibilities for original fanfic-like work! Let me tell you what each makes me think of, although you can of course go in another direction if something else takes your fancy.
Nun/Rebel Taking Refuge in Convent: She has to keep him secret because men aren't allowed in the convent, but he's discovered! Conversely, the rebel is a young lady running from an abusive family and the convent lets her have sanctuary there!
Aristocrat In Disguise/Revolutionary Leader: The leader uncovers said aristocrat's disguise and is so conflicted about seeing the aristocrats as humans, and particularly this one as a human to be protected! Or the leader does not uncover said disguise and the aristocrat is both frightened of what will happen when they do find out, and conflicted about being in love with this person who wants to see their family exiled!
Hulking Male Mercenary Band Leader/Young Man Accused of a Crime He Didn't Commit: The young man joins the mercenaries to get away from the accusation, only to find out he's in way over his head, and the leader steps in to help him get used to this new life!
Young King Who Needs to Prove Himself/Older Queen Who's Conquered Everything: Maybe he's her husband (political marriage) and he needs to prove himself as an active consort - or maybe he's the king of a neighboring kingdom and needs to prove himself so she doesn't conquer his little country!
Imperial Mage & Orphan Who Becomes the Mage's Apprentice: I'm kind of entranced with both the idea of the mage finding a magically-talented orphan on the street and bundling her away to their workshop to train her up, and the mage being left with a relative's child and choosing to make her an apprentice for lack of anything better to do with her!
