- AAAAAH The Formally Invited tea in Kinderhook was the bomb, I went not knowing anyone there apart from Kjirsten and ended up meeting a ton of people, telling them about me, my thesis project, my Etsy store, and the ESC and giving several people my card. (I met someone from the Victorian Social Club who told me that Sue McLane, "The Victorian Lady", is the person to get in touch with to get in touch with the group.) I learned to dance and it was awesome, definitely gives a different perspective on various scenes/characters in Austen to learn first-hand how strenuous an activity it is.

- I swear to god, my dash is so often full of things like this and it's like, people, I like you a whole lot or I'd have unfollowed you ages ago, but why is it always ROSE ROSE ROSE I LOVE HER SHE'S AMAZING with occasional spots of Donna love? Why no Martha adulation? Maybe I'll go into Martha's tag and spam some posts about Martha. Also, why is "she came back and saved the universe" a bad reason for disliking her? JFC.

- In one week my blog got linked to by American Duchess and The Beheld, which is pretty awesome.

- Trying to do the no-'poo thing. I washed my hair with baking soda and vinegar this morning. At first it didn't feel like it was clean, then it did, then it stopped feeling either way. IDK. I already only wash it every few days when it feels like it needs it, because it's thick and kind of coarse, so I'm hoping my hair's oil level is already closer to natural. Probably that's not how it works or something.

- my total fantasy costuming list as of rn, ignoring all things I *ought* to be making for various commitments and/or have concrete plans for )

I love looking at the search terms people use to find my blog. "lilly pulitzer in the 1920s" - sorry, pal, you probably found me gloating that I could remove the Lilly Pulitzer dress from the exhibition. "museums and less than perfect extant clothing" - excellent topic. "what is a apron front panel cutting guide for 18th centur[...]" - what does this mean and where did you come from?

Had a thought yesterday about the term "kimono sleeves". Either it refers to flat, rectangular sleeves sewn to a slit armscye, and the previous registrars were idiots who used it wrong, or it's an inaccurate and stupid term and nobody ought to use it. What they meant was "dolman sleeve", I think, but I'm not fond of the term and prefer to say "cut in one with the bodice/body". ANYWAY.

I had the worst cramps yesterday. Almost went home around one, so I felt that taking tiny breaks to write bits of a blog post were justified since I was still getting more work done than I would have if I'd gone home. In the post I tried to explain my relationship with sewing vs. research and I don't think I did a very good job of it. It's hard.

Things I am going to write about if I could just sit down and do them:
- what jet is, and what jet is not (esp. black glass seed beads with glass disease, ftlog)
- detailed analyses of the 1890s and 1900s, maybe, because they tend to get stereotyped?
- reviews of O Brother, Abduction Club, maybe Clandestine Marriage, St. Ives, Desperate Romantics, Marie Lloyd (and Hattie, Shirley, Gracie?), 39 Steps, Titanic (2012), Plunkett & Macleane.

Today I finished reading Gaudy Night during breaks while working. Oh dear. It was so beautiful I don't know how I can start another book without it seeming tawdry in comparison. ;_; Nothing will ever be the same.
